Veterans Day, 11 November 2018, as it is known in Europe as Armistice Day – this is the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW I hostilities [the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month] and a day of solemn tribute. World leaders met at the Arc de Triomphe to honor the sacrifice of all soldiers and victims of all wars.
“Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism,” French President Macron declares as self-declared nationalist President Trump looks on. https://on.msnbc.com/2QzKwlg
“Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism,” Macron said. “By saying, ‘Our interests first, who cares about the others,’ we erase what a nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what gives it grace and what is essential: its moral values.”
Yet Trump didn’t hear or process one word of Macron’s speech (warning against nationalism) because all that was running through his addled mind was: “I Am the greatest president ever to stand on French soil and all people in My presence worship the ground I stand on … I Am remarkable in every sense or the word … “
Of course Trump doesn’t think with those big Words, the essence of his thoughts and the reason for his gassy expression is: “I am great … I am beautiful to look at … people love me … Macron is a tool … Angela Merle’s is an ugly b*tch … I hate moist weather … I sacrifice everything for my country … MAGA …” ad nauseam.
Reflect on this:
“Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism: Nationalism is treason. By saying ‘our interests come first and the interests of others don’t matter’ we erase what a nation has most precious, what enables it to live: its moral values.”-Macron
